All aboard! Embark on extraordinary rail journeys through the scenic landscapes of Colorado and Southern Utah, brimming with soaring mountain ranges and iconic red rock formations. Begin with a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park, then board the Rocky Mountaineer for stunning vistas as we travel to Moab, overnighting in Glenwood Springs. Soak up the sandstone wonders of Arches National Park and become immersed in Ancient Pueblo cultures during a guided tour of Mesa Verde National Park. Roll along the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton before returning to Durango for a cowboy dinner. On the way to Colorado Springs, gaze upon the towering sand dunes in Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Our last two rail adventures include the Royal Gorge Route Railroad and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. This spectacular trip concludes with exploring the otherworldly scenery in Garden of the Gods and a wonderful Farewell Dinner.
Day 1 : Fly to Colorado
Upon arriving in Denver, we settle into our comfortable accommodations and enjoy a special Welcome Dinner together.
Day 2 : Rocky Mountain National Park
Our adventure begins with a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park, where we’re treated to panoramic views of picturesque lakes, lush meadows, snow-capped peaks, and diverse wildlife. Afterwards, enjoy time to shop and grab a bite to eat in the quaint village of Grand Lake. Upon returning to Denver, the evening is at your leisure.
Day 3 : Rocky Mountaineer Rail Journey
After a grab-and-go breakfast, we climb aboard the Rocky Mountaineer for our first train ride. A gourmet hot breakfast is served mid-morning, followed by a three-course lunch. As passengers in the highest class, SilverLeaf Plus, we receive exclusive access to the spacious lounge car and an elevated dining experience with wine pairings and signature cocktails. Take in scenic views of rugged canyons while venturing west, crossing under the Continental Divide through Moffat Tunnel. The awe-inspiring sights continue as we pass the Colorado Rockies and roll full steam ahead alongside the Colorado River, arriving in Glenwood Springs.
Day 4 : Moab, Utah
A delicious two-course breakfast awaits us on the train this morning as we settle in for another spectacular day of riding the rails. Marvel at the otherworldly red rock formations, including Ruby Canyon, on our journey to Utah. Later, enjoy a variety of appetizers before we disembark in Moab, a city known for its captivating geological wonders. We check in to our accommodations and relax or explore nearby attractions before dinner together.
Day 5 : Arches National Park
Today, we’re off to gaze upon the largest density of natural sandstone arches in the world. A local guide climbs aboard our motorcoach to provide fascinating narration as we tour Arches National Park. Have your camera ready to capture giant balanced rocks, soaring pinnacles, striking red-hued arches, and more! After lunch, our sightseeing continues at Dead Horse Point State Park, featuring unbeatable overlooks of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park. We then return to our hotel for an evening at leisure.
Day 6 : Mesa Verde National Park
We head southeast back into Colorado this morning, stopping at the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum in Dolores to be immersed in the Indigenous cultures of the Four Corners region. Browse intricate exhibits and historic artifacts, then step outside to see 12th-century archaeological sites that were once home to the Ancestral Pueblo people. We continue our drive to Mesa Verde National Park for a guided tour. Explore more well-preserved archaeological sites and get a glimpse into the past lives of 26 Native cultures. Tonight, we check in to our hotel in Durango.
Day 7 : Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Today, we board a vintage train for a thrilling railroad journey through the famous Rocky Mountains with views of the San Juan National Forest and the Animas River flowing alongside us. We arrive in the historic mining town of Silverton for some time to enjoy its sights and eateries, then our motorcoach brings us back to Durango. Take an opportunity to relax in your hotel room before our group meal this evening, an exciting cowboy dinner and show at Bar D Chuckwagon.
Day 8 : Great Sand Dunes National Park
Our day begins with a scenic drive to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Along the way, enjoy views of the Continental Divide and Wolf Creek Pass in the San Juan Mountains. We break for lunch on our own in Alamosa before seeing the tallest dunes in North America, rising over 700 feet! Later, our travels continue to Colorado Springs. Each night at the hotel, you can indulge in complimentary food and drinks while socializing with new friends at the Kickback Reception.
Day 9 : Royal Gorge Bridge and Route Railroad
We travel to Canon City this morning and visit Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. Enjoy a gondola ride across the gorge, from the north to south rim, and find your adventurous side while walking across America’s tallest suspension bridge. Next, it's "all aboard" the Royal Gorge Route Railroad to soak in more of this area’s stunning landscape with a first-class, three-course lunch in the elegant dining car. Be sure to spend time in the private open-air car for a truly unique experience! Later, we return to our Colorado Springs hotel.
Day 10 : Pikes Peak Cog Railway
This morning, we visit The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway to board the world’s highest cog train, ascending over 14,000 feet to the summit of Pikes Peak. Upon reaching the top, take in panoramic vistas of the diverse landscape below. Later, we stop at Garden of the Gods, known for its supernatural beauty of red rock formations soaring into the blue skies above. Enjoy a short film on this National Natural Landmark before exploring its most prominent attractions with a local guide. This evening, we celebrate our unforgettable railroad adventures throughout Colorado and Utah over a wonderful Farewell Dinner.
Day 11 : Fly Home
We return home with new friendships and fond memories made during our ultimate rail journey in the American West.
